Sweet marketing music

Tanner Montague came to town from Seattle having never owned his own music venue before. He’s a musician himself, so he has a pretty good sense of good music, but he also wandered into a crowded music scene filled with concert venues large and small. But the owner of Green Room thinks he found a void in the market. It’s lacking, he says, in places serving between 200 and 500 people, a sweet spot he thinks could be a draw for both some national acts not quite big enough yet for arena gigs and local acts looking for a launching pad.“I felt that size would do well in the city to offer more options,” he says. “My goal was to A, bring another option for national acts but then, B, have a great spot for local bands to start.”Right or wrong, something seems to be working, he says. Boring commute
inspires ?Get it in
Your Soul? launch

by Beth Ewen

?I would do so much driving around, and I noticed some papers reflecting on my windshield,? says Jane Brown. ?I thought, this would be so cool with my affirmations, to get it inside of me.?

And so was born her company, Get it in Your Soul, which sells ?Driving Reflections,? a set of affirmations to use in your car. She started with Bible-infused quotes for the Christian retail market, which she attacks by attending Christian conferences and bookselling conventions.

Now she?s expanding, on advice from some University of St. Thomas marketing seniors who worked with her firm, to the general motivational market. She says her firm was selected by St. Thomas, through its Small Business Institute, to have four seniors use the company as their marketing project.

?When I speak of my goal from the beginning, I will see it fulfilled,? says an affirmation in a pack of 16 that retails for $9.99. They sit on the dashboard in a plastic tray. The design for the product took lots of fiddling, and she holds two patents related to it, she says.
